There are thousands of models out there, but only a lucky few ever reach super model status. What is the difference between a model and a supermodel, you may ask. The word supermodel is a fairly new term coined in 1979 when Janice Dickinson called herself the worlds first supermodel. However, the concept of supermodels has actually existed since the early 1930’s. A model is a gorgeous girl who you see in catalogs and on runways. A supermodel is someone you can recognize outside of the fashion world. You know their names and often, they’ve done something other than model – host a show, write a book, star in a film. Here are some runway legends showcasing their super styles.
