Today is May 5th, so of course, it’s Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo was originally a Mexican holiday to celebrate the Mexican Army’s victory over French forces on May 5th, 1862 during the Battle of Pueblo. Cinco de Mayo literally means the fifth of May in Spanish and it is a separate holiday from Mexican Independence Day, which is in September. The holiday in the United States is a celebration of Mexican culture and yet another reason to party. You can celebrate with some Mexican cuisine, check out one of the many Cinco de Mayo events, or have your own fiesta.
