The Kentucky Derby is a yearly horse racing/gambling event held at the Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s a tradition for many of those from the area and around the country. All sorts of celebrities have been known to attend and the fashion is talked about for days. One thing that will always be in fashion? Hats. The Kentucky Derby is to the United States what Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding was to Britain – an all star event with lots of fun hats. The Kentucky Derby dates back to the 1870’s and has tons of traditions. It’s an upscale event with rose garlands and Mint Juleps as the official drink. Some stars actually own horses in the race like Steven Spielberg and George Steinbrenner but dozens of others come to watch each year. Here are some stylish stars at Kentucky Derby’s past and present.
Kim Kardashian and Diane Von Furstenburg Bang
Kim Kardashian and her mom, Kris, are seen here in black and white at the 2009 Kentucky Derby. They probably feel right at home in the “K” state, and they look fabulous. Kim’s hat and gloves are great but her fierce patent pumps, similar to the Diane Von Furstenberg bang. These hot Diane Von Furstenberg Heels can spice up any look. According to recent celebrity gossip, Kim K was banned from the Met Costume Institute Gala – a star studded style event, and her ex-hubby of 72 days, Kris Humphries wants his engagement ring back. The ring is believed to have cost around two million dollars. What do you think, are these rumors true?
Vanessa Minnillo and Kate Spade Gertie
Former teen beauty queen and t.v. presenter Vanessa Lachey (nee Minnillo) looks pretty in pink at the 2010 Kentucky Derby alongside hubby Nick Lachey. His matching tie is a cute touch. We love Vanessa’s sweet and summery look completed with peep toe bow pumps similar to the Kate Spade Gertie. These Kate Spade heels are the perfect combination of daring and darling. Vanessa and Nick are expecting there first child in the next several months.
Ashlee Simpson and Tory Burch Fabian
Ashley Simpson and her ex hubby Pete Wentz are seen here at the 2010 Kentucky Derby looking like a glamorous blast from the past. Pete’s vintage golfers ensemble is adorable while Ashley’s polka dot dress and hat combo is 1920’s chic. Her great wedge shoes, similar to the Tory Burch Fabian are one hundred percent modern however. These Tory Burch wedges will add height while looking super stylish. We love the contrasting ankle strap.
