LA closing night: ‘Swan’ belles take bows

Los Angeles film gurus last week knew the perfect closing night for the LA AFI Film Fest had to be what it had to be: The premiere of Black Swan, the riveting tale of shove-or-be-shoved ballerinas. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, who play the two rivals, stepped up to the red carpet. Juliette Lewis and Heidi Klum also pulled up at Grauman’s, just two of standout starlets on a mission to hug, pose, smile and watch. We focused hard on every single celeb’s feet (1) because that is what we do and (2) they all looked so boffo. Surely they could toe the line? You be the judge.

Mila Kunis’ outfit stirred debates at last week’s gala. Some thought her all-black ensemble was well, boring. Others said that with her figure who needed a funky dress. We jive with the minimalist camp. We weren’t crazy about her open-toe shoes, though. Too much open-toe for all that fabric. The dress needed true eleganza. We chose, what else, Kate Spade Karolina black satin evening pumps.

Film buffs rave about Natalie Portman’s ballerina talents in the film but we wonder why a somber Natalie looks as if she’s reporting for hat-room duty at the Bolshoi. Loved her dress, tolerated her heels, but, big BUT. We think these Claudia Ciuti Gigi bronze leather shoes could have nudged her into turning up more heat, don’t you? Sexy, strappy, and sandle-ized are the way shoes should go here.

Juliette Lewis, as prettily offbeat as ever, was at the Black Swan night and revealed a fit body not too far from heaven. Her sexy gray dress hugged all the tight places. We can’t dis her ankle-strap heels, but we did one better in the glamoroso department with Pelle Moda Lexy Pewter Leather sandals. Printed snake leather trim, rear zipper, and platform rise…what more could power legs need to run in high gear?
